Hi, my name is Katherine Sheverava.
I’m the founder of Fit + Happy.
I gained 40 pounds during my second pregnancy. I was 37 years old. It was 3 years since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto — an autoimmune thyroid disease. One of the symptoms of this disease is weight gain and difficulty in losing weight.
I felt miserable, unhealthy, and unhappy. I knew exactly why I gained weight. It was my choice to allow myself to eat whatever my eyes and brain wanted.
Being pregnant was my excuse.
After giving birth to my sweet son, I realized I was not who I wanted to be, and I didn’t feel how I wanted to feel. I decided to change my health and how I looked by changing my lifestyle — once and forever.
I didn’t want to be “a mom of two kids” or having a Hashimoto to be an excuse for being overweight, unhealthy, and unhappy. I knew I deserved more! I believed there was another way of being “a mom of two” and that losing weight, keeping it off, and feeling amazing was possible. As a result, I got into the best shape in my life while having two small kids and having Hashimoto.
My health and two small children became my strong motivation. One and a half years after I decided to pursue my health, I became strong, fit, and confident; all of my Hashimoto symptoms faded away, and I felt amazing.
Ten years later, I still maintain my results and keep up with my goal.
I was never able to do this in my life, even before having children. I have always struggled with living a healthy lifestyle consistently, but after the birth of my son, I was finally able to make permanent changes that stick.
How?
I changed my diet mentality to a healthy lifestyle mentality. I started to educate myself about what a healthy lifestyle really looks like. I started making small, sustainable lifestyle changes and tried different things until I figured out what worked for me and my body.
I worked on my mindset and figured out how to process emotions instead of numbing them with food and alcohol. BTW, I quit alcohol during this process
I knew I wanted to be fit, healthy, and happy for the rest of my life. I also knew I wanted to be a good example for my kids, especially because they are growing up in a country where 2/3 of the adult population is overweight or obese and more than half suffers from chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. It’s now well known that a healthy lifestyle is the best way to prevent chronic disease. That’s why I’m on a mission to teach my kids the basics of a healthy lifestyle.
Lifestyle and mindset changes take time, effort, and patience — but it’s worth it! Because my health and the health of my family are worth it.
I figured out how to make permanent changes to my life that actually stick. Now, I empower other women to find their way to a healthier version of themselves.
